Body-Based Psychotherapy Approaches

Body-based approaches recognise that our experiences are held not only in the mind, but also in the body. Stress, trauma, and emotional patterns can be reflected in posture, breath, tension, and physical sensation, often beyond what can be accessed through words alone.

These approaches work gently and respectfully with bodily awareness, supporting greater connection, regulation, and a sense of safety. By listening to the body and its signals, it can become possible to release held tension, integrate emotional experiences, and restore balance.

This approach may be helpful if you…

  • Feel disconnected from your body or emotions

  • Experience stress, anxiety, or overwhelm that shows up physically

  • Hold long-standing tension, fatigue, or patterns of physical unease

  • Have experienced trauma or chronic stress

  • Are interested in a more embodied, holistic way of working

What sessions are like

Body-based sessions may involve guided attention to breath, posture, movement, and physical sensation, alongside reflective dialogue. The work is collaborative and paced carefully, with a strong emphasis on consent, safety, and choice.

Sessions do not require talking in detail about experiences unless you wish to. Instead, the focus is on cultivating awareness and supporting the body’s natural capacity for regulation and healing.

Who this service is for

Body-based approaches are offered to adults, and may also be suitable for adolescents depending on the clinician. Sessions can take place in person or online, depending on the modality.
