Brian O’Sullivan
Children and Young People’s CBT Practitioner offering evidence-based, CAMHS-informed support for young people and families, including neurodiversity (ASD and ADHD)
As a qualified social worker and Children’s Low Intensity CBT Practitioner, I draw on a collaborative and person-centred approach to support children, young people, and their families. My work is grounded in evidence-based CBT and shaped by extensive experience within CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services).
I specialise in working with children, young people, their families, and carers, including those who are neurodiverse. I adapt my approach to suit each young person, recognising that no single way of working fits everyone.
Whatever brings you or your child to support, we will explore it together in a safe, calm, and supportive space. My aim is to help young people feel heard, understood, and empowered, while supporting families to find practical and manageable ways forward.
How I work
I work collaboratively with children, young people, and their families, with the belief that each individual is the expert in their own experience. My role is to support, guide, and equip them with tools to better understand and manage their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.
My approach is grounded in Low Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), offering structured, evidence-based support for difficulties such as anxiety, low mood, and stress. This is informed by my experience within CAMHS services, including work in Children’s Crisis Teams, Family Outreach, and Mental Health in Schools, where timely, practical, and compassionate interventions are essential.
Alongside this, I take a systemic and relational perspective, recognising the importance of family, environment, and wider support networks.
I have particular experience working with neurodiverse clients, including those with ASD and ADHD, and adapt my work to ensure it is accessible, supportive, and responsive to different communication and processing styles.

Professional background & accreditation
I am:
Registered Social Worker – Social Work England
Children’s Low Intensity CBT Practitioner (CWP)
LIST Practitioner and Supervisor
British Sign Language (BSL) Stage 1
I qualified as a Social Worker from Lancaster University in 1997 and have developed a broad career across the mental health sector, including roles within the NHS, social care, and the voluntary sector.
Over the past six years, I have specialised as a Children’s Low Intensity CBT Practitioner within CAMHS, working across services including the Children’s Crisis Team, Family Outreach, and Mental Health in Schools. This experience has involved supporting children, young people, their families, carers, and wider networks through a wide range of mental health challenges, often during periods of heightened need.
This CAMHS background informs my approach, combining evidence-based practice with a calm, practical, and compassionate way of working that supports both immediate difficulties and longer-term resilience.
Alongside my clinical work, I am a qualified LIST practitioner and supervisor, and I hold British Sign Language (BSL) Stage 1, supporting me in offering inclusive and accessible care.
