Dr Anya Ciobanca
Consultant Psychiatrist and Cognitive Analytic Therapist offering integrated medical and psychological care for adults, young people, and families.
I am a Consultant Psychiatrist and Cognitive Analytic Therapist working with adults who wish to better understand the patterns underlying anxiety, low mood, perfectionism, and relationship difficulties. My approach integrates medical and psychological insight, helping to explore how past experiences shape present struggles.
I offer a warm, reflective therapeutic space where increased self-awareness can support resilience, clarity, and meaningful change.
How I work
My work is integrative and personalised, combining psychiatric assessment with psychological therapy where appropriate. As a Cognitive Analytic Therapist, I am particularly interested in how early relational experiences influence current patterns of thinking, feeling, and relating to others.
Therapy focuses on understanding these patterns with compassion and curiosity, enabling new ways of responding to difficulties. Where indicated, I also bring expertise in the careful and thoughtful use of pharmacological interventions, always in collaboration with the individual and grounded in shared decision-making.

Professional background & experience
I originally qualified as a medical doctor in 2004 and trained initially in public health before pursuing a career in psychiatry. I completed both my Core Psychiatry Training and Specialist Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in Cambridge.
I have worked extensively within NHS services with children and adults, including individuals with learning disabilities and eating disorders. My approach is compassionate and collaborative, engaging young people and their families to gain a comprehensive understanding of difficulties and to establish a clear way forward.
Alongside my psychiatric training, I undertook in-depth training in Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) at St Thomas’ Hospital, developing specialist expertise in combining psychological and pharmacological approaches.
I am also a Visiting Consultant Psychiatrist at the University of Cambridge, where I provide complex communication training for medical students.
